Principal investigators Claire Bradley and Dr Britta Stordal are guiding a team of Middlesex under-graduate students on an exciting new genetic genealogy project. The team will gather DNA samples (purchased via Direct-to-Consumer websites such as Ancestry, FamilyTreeDNA or 23andMe). Their results will be passed to the students anonymously, who will then attempt to figure out who the donors are by looking at their DNA matches on the third party database, Gedmatch.com. Dr Stordal will supervise their use of genealogy websites and Ms Bradley will act advise on genealogical methods.
The project is open to individuals worldwide but it is hoped that at least some will have Irish ancestry, either known or estimated by ethnicity results.
