Following their recent announcement that they were now accepting people who have achieved or are for studying for a Masters in History of the Family from the University of Limerick, I’m pleased to announce that I’ve joined the Register of Qualified Genealogists.

I’d been aware of the RQG for a while and wrote to them when they were founded a few years ago pointing out both the Limerick MA and the now-defunct UCD certificate, but it’s taken a while for non-UK qualifications to come into the mix. No doubt other university genealogy courses will be added in due course.

One of the most exciting parts for me is the forum, where other genealogists can pose professional queries on any aspect of their business. This is something sorely lacking in a field where most people are working alone, and very welcome.

I’m looking forward to participating!
